Heather Day, LMHC

My belief is that healing is a collaborative process that depends on honest caring, without judgement. I work to cooperatively assist my clients in identifying their goals in treatment, rather than selecting one methodology for all individuals and struggles. I pull from a variety of strategies to create a unique approach for each individual and challenge. As a therapist, I am warm, compassionate, encouraging, but assertive and direct. I have an unwavering optimism and faith in individual’s ability to change, which helps me identify the good even in the most trying of situations. I consider myself an active therapist, combining my experience, education, creativity, sense of humor, with a down to earth realistic approach to counseling.

I have over 11 years of experience as a mental health counselor in a variety of settings including outpatient mental health, hospital settings, foster care, school based, and with child protective services. In each of these experiences I had to the opportunity to work with children, adolescents, families, and adults with a variety of mental health challenges.

With my varied experience I have built a wealth of knowledge working with those suffering with anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, depression, mood disorder, ADHD, post-traumatic stress disorder, separation/divorce, parent and child relational issues, stress management, self esteem difficulties, and general life stressors. My goal is to help my clients identify their own unique strengths to move forward in life. I strive to help my clients find peace, freedom, and a balance to live in the present moment.

I received my undergraduate degree in psychology from Keuka College, and my master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Rochester. I reside in Clifton Springs NY with my husband and (many) pets. I have a passion for animals, enjoy reading, exercise, and helping others.
